Ballett Chemnitz

[:de]„Witness“ ist ein Stück für drei Tänzerinnen, drei Tänzer und eine Frauenstimme. Das Publikum ist in den Ballettsaal eingeladen, um einen Blick hinter die Kulissen des kreativen Prozesses zu bekommen und die Begegnung zwischen der freischaffenden Choreografi n May Zarhy und dem Ensemble des Ballett Chemnitz hautnah zu spüren. Dabei konzentrieren sich die Tänzerinnen und Tänzer in ihren Bewegungen drauf, die anderen zu spüren, ihre Erfahrunge durch Körpersprache zu beschreiben und schließlich den Kontakt zu suchen. Ein spannendes Wechselspiel, in dem auch vorangegangene Bewegungen erinnert und individuell interpretiert werden. Zugleich schlägt „Witness“ dem Publikum vor, eher „Zeuge“ als „Zuschauer“ des Stücks zu sein.

Die freischaffende Choreografin May Zarhy kreierte mit 16 Jahren ihr erstes Stück für die nationale Choreografie-Biennale Shades in Dance in Tel Aviv, bevor sie in die Niederlande zog, wo sie 2006 ihren Abschluss an der Rotterdam Dance Academy erwarb. Während ihres Studiums arbeitete sie auch als Assistentin von William Forsythe bei der Forsythe Company (2005). Im Jahr 2007 absolvierte sie das Postgraduiertenprogramm ex.e.r.ce von Xavier Le Roy und Mathilde Monnier in Montpellier, Frankreich. Später gründete sie zusammen mit Fabrice Mazliah und Ioannis Mandafounis das kollaborative Trio Mamaza, mit dem sie auf der ganzen Welt auftrat. Seit 2014 kreiert Zarhy ihre eigenen Performance-Arbeiten sowie partizipatorische Arbeiten im öffentlichen Raum.

The audience is invited into the ballet studio to take a look behind the scenes of the creative process and experience the encounter between freelance choreographer May Zarhy and the ensemble of Ballett Chemnitz up close. The dancers concentrate their movements on sensing the others, describing their experiences through body language and finally seeking contact. An exciting interplay in which previous movements are also remembered and individually interpreted. At the same time, „Witness“ suggests that the audience should be a „witness“ rather than a „spectator“ of the piece.

Freelance choreographer May Zarhy created her first piece at the age of 16 for the national choreography biennial Shades in Dance in Tel Aviv before moving to the Netherlands, where she graduated from the Rotterdam Dance Academy in 2006. During her studies she also worked as an assistant to William Forsythe at the Forsythe Company (2005). In 2007 she completed the postgraduate program ex.e.r.ce of Xavier Le Roy and Mathilde Monnier in Montpellier, France. She later founded the collaborative trio Mamaza together with Fabrice Mazliah and Ioannis Mandafounis, with whom she performed all over the world. Since 2014, Zarhy has been creating her own performance works as well as participatory works in public spaces.
