MADE IN CHEMNITZ 20•24 – ORBIT_A (LEVEL UP)
Ballett Chemnitz & Plesni Teater Ljubljana
15. June 2024 | 20:00 Uhr - 22:00 Uhr
20€One evening – three choreographers.
It starts with “16:13 Blues” by Giovanni Visone from Italy. The dancer from Gauthier Dance, the dance company of Theaterhaus Stuttgart, completed his training in Florence, danced with the Delattre Dance Company in Mainz and the Staatsballett Hannover, where he performed in pieces by Jiří Kylián, Andonis Foniadakis, Medhi Walerski, Nadav Zelner and Hans van Manen. As a choreographer, he received prizes at the SOLOCOREOGRAFICO Festival Frankfurt and the International Competition for
Choreography Competition Hanover 2022.
With “16:13 Blues”, he transports the audience to a Sunday afternoon, when the feeling of bitterness is mixed with restlessness, probably because the return to everyday life is imminent. Instead of being a break, sometimes the moment develops when it becomes easier to face the thoughts that are often repressed on other days. In this dimension, if the feeling arises that this small window of time is not being fully utilized and enjoyed, guilt can quickly be felt, almost as if something has been done wrong. There is this belief that we should be happy because we mistakenly think that everyone is happy on Sunday.
Emilijus Miliauskas, who has been a soloist with Ballett Chemnitz since the 2011/2012 season, will take on part two. Born in Lithuania, he has danced in ballets at the Munich State Opera and performed as a soloist at the Leipzig Opera and with the Ballet Ensemble Linz. Now he shows his choreographic handwriting: in “All the Animals”, an examination of the human psyche. For this invitation to the audience to reflect on their own inner conflicts and to draw hope from the possibility of renewal, he uses the metaphor of animals to address universal themes such as fear, temptation, anger, doubt and deception.
For the third part of the night, Dance Theatre Ljubljana is a guest with the production “ORBIT_A (Level up)”.
ORBIT_A is a continuation of Kaja Lin Jagodič Avguštin’s PTL Author’s Opus in co-authorship with U.K based multi-disciplinary artist Mickael Marso Riviére. This dynamic duet explores the process of modern migrations, diverse spectres of internal impulses that trigger displacement and effects that a displacement has on personal growth, on relationships and on identity. Orbit is a track of circular motion, an elliptical but nevertheless repeating motion. The movement of dancers is rooted in floorwork, contemporary dance, capoeira and unfolds to the original scores of composer Domenico Angarano.
Dance Theatre Ljubljana is subsidized by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia and the Municipality of Ljubljana.
