The TANZ | MODERNE | TANZ Festival 2026 it takes place from 16.09. - 20.09.2026 instead!
Greeting of the Saxon Minister of State for culture and tourism Barbara Klepsch

Dear dance enthusiasts,
It is with great pleasure that I have once again assumed the patronage of this year's TANZ │ MODERNE │ TANZ – a festival that has significantly established contemporary dance in the cultural life of the city of Chemnitz. And at a high international level!
In addition to guest performances from Europe and Israel, workshops, and the legendary breaking and hip-hop battle „Soul Expression,“ the 12th edition of the festival once again invites everyone to the largest ballet barre in the world. Participation is therefore strictly allowed!
I am especially pleased that a production by Germany's first permanent mixed-abled company is also included. Based at LOFFT – DAS THEATER in Leipzig, dancers with and without physical disabilities work together here. The focus is not on inclusion as a pedagogical approach, but rather on the artistic advancement of contemporary dance through physical diversity.
Dancing together is not only fun, it also keeps you fit and can even alleviate the symptoms of those suffering from dementia and Parkinson's disease. In the workshops, the exciting health aspects of dance are explored for this purpose.
TANZ │ MODERNE │ TANZ therefore promises a diverse program dedicated to contemporary dance once again in 2026. I am certain there will be something for everyone that touches, impresses, and inspires.
Riding the momentum of the European Capital of Culture 2025, Chemnitz has already ventured into its next project. With the support of TANZPAKT Stadt-Land-Bund as well as regional and international partners, a center for contemporary and urban dance will open here in July 2027. The „City of Modernity“ thus never stands still culturally!
I wish all participants much success and joy!
Sincerely yours
Barbara Klepsch
