Absolventen des MA-Studiengangs Choreographie der Palucca Hochschule für Tanz Dresden unter der Studiengangsleiterin Choreografie Katharina Christl

Das Festival TANZ | MODERNE | TANZ wird wieder zur Bühne für junge choreografische Handschriften – und vereint an diesem Abend ganz unterschiedliche Arbeiten von Absolventen des MA-Studiengangs Choreografie der Palucca Hochschule für Tanz in Dresden.

Da ist zum einen der aus Australien stammende Jack Bannermann. Der freischaffende Choreograph und bildende Künstler präsentierte seine Arbeiten bislang für die Tanzplattform Rhein-Main, das Florence Dance Festival, die Tanzzentrale Nürnberg und das Tanznetz Dresden. In Chemnitz zeigt er „Fühlen Sie sich zu Hause?“, ein Duo mit Gavin Law. Dabei hinterfragt er das Gefühl der Zugehörigkeit mit den Mitteln des Tanzes und der Sprache. Wie also lässt sich Vertrautheit finden, auch wenn das „Zuhause“ geografisch weit entfernt liegt?

Um Objektivierung und Entmenschlichung im Kontext gesellschaftlicher Normen geht es dagegen im Duett „norm Practice“ den Choreografinnen Yuexuan Gui and Shiyu Liu, welches sie auch selbst tanzen.. Indem das Stück konventionelle Wahrnehmungen in Frage stellt und die Komplexität von Normalität und Abnormität entschlüsselt, soll es zu Selbstreflexion und Dialog anregen. Die gebürtige Chinesin Yuexuan Gui erhielt ihre Tanzausbildung an der Beijing Dance Academy zeigte ihre Arbeiten als Choreografin bislang unter anderem am Theater Pforzheim, dem Beijing Dance Festival oder der Venice Biennale di Danza. ShiYu Liu studierte Tanz an der Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapur und begann ihre Karriere bei der LDTX Dance Company in Peking. Als Choreografin nahm sie unter anderem an der International Choreography Residency beim American Dance Festival teil, arbeitete aber auch schon für Film- und Museumsprojekte.

Einen weiteren Part übernimmt Charles A. Washington. Der Choreograf, Performer und Musiker ist künstlerischer Leiter der Tanzkompanie Pinkmetalpetal Productions und seit 2024 Mitglied im Vorstand des TanzNetzDresden. Von ihm wird „The Final Chapter“ zu sehen sein, wofür er auch Kostüme, Lichtdesign und Musik selbst schuf. Zur Komposition „Acid“ zeigt er die Entwicklung der Bewegung zu Gesten auf, die in erzählerischen Situationen wie Wellen des Verstehens fließen. Dieses choreografische Spiel regt die Vorstellungskraft des Publikums geschickt an und schafft eine offene Arena für die Erforschung persönlicher Geschichten.

Last but not least kommt Odbayar Batsuuri mit zwei Arbeiten zum Festival: zum einen mit seinem selbst getanzten Solo „In the Inside“, zum anderen mit dem Duett „Zukunfts-Rennen“. Während sich das Solo dem komplizierten Wechselspiel zwischen heiteren und unangenehmen Momenten widmet und die innere Welt als Schlachtfeld zeigt, auf dem Emotionen und Intellekt einen delikaten Tanz aufführen, gerät das Duett, co-choreographiert mit Seraphine Detscher zur Metapher für die Eltern-Kind-Beziehung. Die gemeinsame Arbeit mit der in Dresden lebenden Tänzerin und Choreografin erzählt, wie Erwachsene den Nachwuchs auf die leistungsorientierte Gesellschaft vorbereiten, ähnlich wie Trainer ihre Athleten. Der gebürtige Mongole Odbayar Batsuuri absolvierte seine Tanzausbildung am mongolischen Staatskonservatorium und kam nach einer 14-jährigen Tanzkarriere nach Deutschland, um Choreografie zu studieren. Mit „In The Inside“ wurde er zum Gdansk Dance Festival und Solocoreografico – Solo Dance Festival 2023 eingeladen.Seraphine Detscher ist mit der 4roomsCompany in der Tanzszene Dresdens sowohl als Tänzerin wie auch als Choreografin tätig.

The TANZ | MODERNE | TANZ festival will once again become a stage for young choreographic signatures – and on this evening will bring together very different works by graduates of the MA Choreography program at the Palucca University of Dance Dresden.

On the one hand, there is Jack Bannermann from Australia. The freelance choreographer and visual artist has presented his work for the Tanzplattform Rhein-Main, the Florence Dance Festival, the Tanzzentrale Nürnberg and the Tanznetz Dresden. In Chemnitz, he will be showing „Do you feel at home?“, a duo with Gavin Law. He questions the feeling of belonging with the means of dance and language. So how can familiarity be found, even if „home“ is geographically far away?

In contrast, the duet „norm Practice“ by choreographers Yuexuan Gui and Shiyu Liu, deals with objectification and dehumanization in the context of social norms. By questioning conventional perceptions and deciphering the complexity of normality and abnormality, the piece aims to encourage self-reflection and dialog. Born in China, she has previously shown her work at the Theater Pforzheim, the Beijing Dance Festival and the Venice Biennale di Danza, among others.

The next contribution is from Charles A. Washington. The choreographer, performer and musician is the artistic director of the dance company Pinkmetalpetal Productions and has been a member of the TanzNetzDresden board since 2024. He will be performing „The Final Chapter“, for which he also created the costumes, lighting design and music himself. For the composition „Acid“, he shows the development of movement into gestures that flow like waves of understanding in narrative situations. This choreographic game cleverly stimulates the audience’s imagination and creates an open arena for the exploration of personal stories.

Last but not least, Odbayar Batsuuri is bringing two works to the festival: firstly his self-performed solo „In the Inside“ and secondly the duet „Future Race“. While the solo is dedicated to the complicated interplay between cheerful and unpleasant moments and shows the inner world as a battlefield on which emotions and intellect perform a delicate dance, the duet, co-choreographed with Seraphine Detscher is a metaphor for a parent-child relationship. The joint work with the Dresden-based dancer and choreographer tells the story of how adults prepare their offspring for a performance-oriented society, much like coaches prepare their athletes. Born in Mongolia, Odbayar Batsuuri completed his dance training at the Mongolian State Conservatory and came to Germany to study choreography after a 14-year dance career. He was invited to the Gdansk Dance Festival and Solocoreografico – Solo Dance Festival 2023 with „In The Inside“. Seraphine Detscher works with the 4roomsCompany in Dresden’s dance scene both as a dancer and as a choreographer.
