This initiative was founded based on the idea of Chemnitz as a city of modernity. Its work includes professional productions, performances in public spaces, educational programs, health and inclusion initiatives and long-term artistic development.
TANZ | MODERNE | TANZ develops, presents and promotes contemporary and urban dance in Chemnitz and beyond. Our activities bring together professional artists, local communities and international partners. Through Performances, Festivals, Residences, Workshops and inclusive programs, we create spaces for artistic research, learning, dialogue and social connection.

Buero
The TANZ | MODERNE | TANZ office coordinates educational, participatory and health-oriented dance programs to make contemporary dance accessible and inclusive, to promote audience development and to firmly anchor dance in the cultural life of the city.
Zentrum
In planningThe Center for Contemporary Dance will offer space for professional artists, emerging talents and the broader public. It will unite a Central European Choreotraphic Centre for the promotion of young artists, where residencies will be offered, an intergenerational program with a variety of courses and inclusive programs for dancers and interested parties of all ages. Another focus will be the performance and excellence center for Breaking.
Festival
The annual TANZ | MODERNE | TANZ festival brings together international dance and urban culture in public spaces. Site-specific and participatory performances, workshops and community events bring dance and urban culture together in Chemnitz.
Support Organization
The projects are supported by TANZ | MODERNE | TANZ e.V., an association for the promotion of contemporary and urban dance in Chemnitz and the surrounding area. The association was founded on June 19, 2019 and aims to promote art and culture, education, international understanding, tolerance and cultural exchange through dance.

We are very pleased to announce that TANZ | MODERNE | TANZ as part of the funding program TANZPAKT urban-rural alliance is promoted.
This funding enables the further development of the DANCE | MODERN | DANCE Center.
This is an important step for contemporary dance in Chemnitz, for exchange and community.
