Six dancers take the audience into the world of African urban dance – for almost an hour without ever stopping. With Ndombolo, Afrohouse, Pantsula and many other styles, they tell the story of a youth for whom movement is an essential form of expression, a veritable outlet. And choreographer Anne Nguyen adds the political dimension. By setting her company in fast-paced confrontations and stirring scenarios, they also tell stories that arise in a colonial context full of violence, exploitation and the plundering of raw materials. The dances are thus an expression of an attitude to life that is as graceful as it is challenging, as restless as it is rugged. A hymn to the precious repertoire of movement that is created on the streets of the world.
Anne Nguyen is considered a proven hip-hop expert. Not only because she taught the dance style at the Science Po University in Paris from 2012 to 2018, but also because she was once actively involved in the world of breakdancing and battles herself and all of her choreography is based on hip hop. She was awarded the Nouveau Talent Chorégraphie SACD in 2013 and was an associate artist at the Chaillot – Théatre national de la Danse from 2015 to 2018.
