May Zarhy (Germany/Israel)

Touch and non-touch are the soulful ingredients of this sophisticated dance duet. With a mix of mime and abstract movement, the pair invites you into a moving space of intimacy and emotion to explore the connection between memory, bodily experience and imagination. In the process, the two are driven by the compositions of electronic musician Daniella Ljungsberg. An exciting as well as intimate excursion into the relational world of two people who resonate with the audience.

Choreographer and performer May Zarhy lives in Berlin and Tel Aviv. At 16, she created her first piece for the national choreography biennial Shades in Dance in Tel Aviv before moving to the Netherlands, where she graduated from the Rotterdam Dance Academy in 2006. During her studies, she also worked as an assistant to William Forsythe at the Forsythe Company (2005). In 2007, she graduated from the postgraduate program ex.e.r.ce of Xavier Le Roy and Mathilde Monnier in Montpellier, France. She later formed the collaborative trio Mamaza with Fabrice Mazliah and Ioannis Mandafounis, with whom she performed around the world. Since 2014, Zarhy has been creating her own performance works as well as participatory works in public spaces.
