International Breakdance and Hip Hop Battle

Breakdancers of different ages from Chemnitz and the surrounding area have been training at the Kraftwerk socio-cultural center for 30 years. In 2002, the dancers organized the international breakdance and hip-hop battle “Soul Expression” for the first time on a voluntary basis at their training location and increasingly made it a highlight of the scene. By 2015, a total of 369 crews with almost 3,000 dancers from 100 European cities and three other continents had reached a total of 7,400 visitors. The project is now being revived as part of the 10th TANZ | MODERNE | TANZ 2024 festival. Breakdancers from Chemnitz and Saxony are organizing the revival with other enthusiasts from the scene. Of course, the team also includes dancers from “The Saxonz” and the Chemnitz “Room – Hip Hop Spot”. With verve, freshness, cheerfulness, creative ideas, new initiatives and motivation, they have been working on the implementation for many weeks and are making their contribution to the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 with this unique project. The “5 vs 5 – Breaking Crew Battles” and “3 vs 3 Hip Hop Battles” are expected to attract groups, DJs, dancers for the jury and other participants from Germany, France, Morocco, perhaps also Austria and Switzerland. Due to the character of the crew battles and the togetherness of the dancers, the audience also experiences emotional moments and of course fascinating dance performances when gravity is suspended.
