THE WEIGHT OF WATER – First time in Germany

The floating staircase by visual artist and architect Rob van Dam fascinated choreographer Pia Meuthen so much that she created a performance especially for it. A lot is at stake in the dance on the floating and tilting staircase: the six performers have to react immediately to each other’s movement and that of the object. At the same time, there is a striving for power, but also a dependence on each other and on larger uncontrollable elements. Every movement on the stairs demands a reaction from all the dancers, who combine the tension of the circus and the eloquence of dance over 45 minutes.

Choreographer Pia Meuthen finds her inspiration in literature and philosophy and then translates it into poetic images. The performances are created through improvisation based on thorough research and are carried by the charismatic performers – a team of international dancers and circus artists of different ages and backgrounds.

Panama Pictures is based in the Netherlands and is known both nationally and internationally. The company is a welcome guest at festivals in countries such as Germany, Poland, Russia, Norway, Spain, Indonesia, Malaysia and China.
