[Superstrat[ explores the connection between the original roots of dance and music and the heritage of the African American diaspora. The solo, performed by a dancer skilled in both urban and traditional African styles, showcases the memory of the body and traces a path that is at once a rite of passage and a migration route. The piece takes us on a journey through rhythms, eras, and movements, leading us back to the original language of the body, its capacity for constant reinvention, and its universal symbolism. Have we ever truly „invented“ a dance or a piece of music? Why do we identify with certain influences and not with others? In a cosmopolitan world marked by voluntary and forced migration, how do our respective cultures accompany the paths of peoples and individuals? In [Superstrat[, the creolized memories of uprooted people reflect the current reality of migration phenomena as well as the tensions brought about by cultural globalization.
Anne Nguyen is considered a recognized hip-hop expert. Not only because she taught the dance style at Sciences Po Paris from 2012 to 2018, but also because she was once active herself in the world of breakdancing and battles, and all of her choreographies draw upon hip-hop. She was awarded the Nouveau Talent Chorégraphie SACD in 2013 and was an associated artist at Chaillot – Théâtre national de la Danse from 2015 to 2018. With her works, Anne Nguyen draws from the traditional, classical, and urban repertoire to create something unmistakable, thanks in part to the original compositions for her productions.
