Soul Expression – Semifinal

International Breaking Crew and All Style Crew Battle – Soul Expression
The history of the international breakdance and hip-hop battle began in 2002 at the Kraftwerk. Prepared on a voluntary basis and implemented with dedication, it became the largest event of its kind in Chemnitz. With the participation of international groups and individual acts, forms of participatory democracy were realized on the basis of European partnership. Thus, Soul Expression was considered one of the most emotional urban dance events in eastern Germany until 2015: 14 events, 369 crews, around 3,000 dancers from over 100 cities, and a total of 7,400 enthusiastic visitors speak for themselves.
In 2023, the goal and desire was to revive Soul Expression. The association Förderverein TANZ I MODERNE I TANZ e.V. took on this endeavor, supported by the socio-cultural association Kraftwerk e.V. Finally, the comeback was celebrated on June 15, 2024, and Soul Expression has been an integral part of the TANZ | MODERNE | TANZ festival ever since.
This year, alongside the Breaking Crew Battle, an All Style Crew Battle is taking place for the first time. Also new: this time the semifinals will take place on Saturday from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM in the former workshop of fabrik chemnitz. The finals will follow on Sunday from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
Under the auspices of the TANZ | MODERNE | TANZ festival, the event is made possible by grants and funding from the City of Chemnitz, the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony, the Sparkasse Chemnitz, as well as corporate and private donations, enabling participants from all over Europe to come to Chemnitz to showcase their skills.
