For many years, the Sister Linga Group choreographies and the idea of creating a moving organism with multiple performers on stage that can assemble and dissolve into flexible and fluid formations, creating a collective consciousness. In co-production with the music duo „The Beast's Shadow“ (Mathias Delplanque and François Robin) merge the dancers into a performative body that completely surrenders to the hypnotic effect of the music, without the dancers abandoning their uniqueness and individuality. They create utopian moments of oneness, recognizing that diversity is what constitutes society's richness.
A world in search of collective harmony merges bodies, creating relationships so intense that emotions can be shared, understood, and felt by all. In this way, everyone finds their place for the maximum unfolding of their individuality in the simultaneity of everyone's movements.
After production Flow (SWISS DANCE AWARD 2019), inspired by the captivating and fluid spectacle of schools of fish and flocks of birds, emerges with COSMOS A new group choreographic adventure under the sign of the circle and the mandala as an image of a „whole unity“ that harmoniously encompasses differences and tensions. A place where „things exist in mutual dependence, and this interdependent existence of things occurs in the form of ordered chaos“ (Chögyam Trungpa). In movement, this striving for ordered chaos is expressed through the connection of trajectories and geometries, through ritual gestures and renewed traditions – through new scenic paths.

In the summer of 1518, something strange happened in Strasbourg. In the narrow streets and squares of the city, dozens of people danced wildly to the rhythm of tambourines, viols, and bagpipes. But it wasn't a party mood. Medical historian John Waller stated in his 2009 reference work The Dancing Plague, that the scenes are frighteningly waiting.
The women, men, and children affected by this strange dancing hysteria screamed, calling for help – but stopping was impossible. They were trapped in a trance. They all had „a vacant look on their faces as they gazed skyward; their arms and legs twitching with jerky and weary movements; their shirts, skirts, and stockings clinging damply to their emaciated bodies,“ as John Waller describes it. Within days, the cases multiplied like a spreading virus, sowing fear and death in the Alsatian town. Many of the involuntary dancers did not survive this death dance, reminiscent of the Danse Macabre. It was a woman, Frau Troffea, who first triggered this dancing demise on July 14th of that year. Nowadays, after the experiences of Corona, she would probably be called Patient Zero: the first infected individual during an epidemic.
Both as a choreographic object and as a field of experimentation Mrs. Troffea a reference to #MeQueer experiences in relation to homophobia and everyday discrimination, which gay, bisexual, or transgender people often have to endure. Samuel Mathieu This refers to the work of Marie-Hélène (now Sam) Bourcier – a sociologist, researcher, and lecturer at the University of Lille III, who repeatedly discusses the idea of hierarchy-free relationships between genders in her academic work, placing it within the scientific context of Feminism/Transferism, Gender Studies, Trans Studies, Queer Studies, Post-Colonial Studies, and Porn Studies. Choreographically, Mathieu discusses the body and its vocabulary, bringing it into discourse with its environment, where postures escalate, a collision of thoughts and words with the body itself, pushing the performer beyond their own limits without pre-conceived outcomes – a permanent search for the expansion and liberalization of the concept of gender, roles, and attributes of the typically feminine, the typically masculine, as defined by power relations and not as an essence of humanity.

The new work in the series Showcase from Anthony Missen for the Chemnitz Ballet – UNINVITED –, reflects our current situation in a special way through its realistic portrayal. Anthony Missen takes a very personal look at what is unwelcome – on an individual as well as interpersonal level. An evening full of uninvited touches, approaches, and fears, including rejection or exclusion – a permanent transgression of boundaries. What is special about this choreographic work is that it was primarily created online, due to the global Corona pandemic. For Ballett Chemnitz, this was not a reason to bury their heads in the sand, but rather an incentive to find new ways to create choreography and dance. The result is very personal moments and answers from the dancers of Ballett Chemnitz.
The inspiration for UNINVITED came through the confrontation with the stark reality of unforeseen and indeed also unwelcome events and decisions that had to be made as a consequence of the global pandemic. Added to this are grotesque experiences such as the forced unloading of already invited wedding guests, the virtuoso obstacle course around the supply of food and toilet paper, as well as a permanent risk analysis when encountering fellow human beings. Reflecting on all that which in life uninvited or unwanted This led the choreographers to explore the peculiarities of human existence and its states. Or, as Missen says, to reflect „also on what we burden each other with – like unwanted touches, cold words, insults, xenophobia, prejudice, and on an individual level, the internal struggles with the many uninvited trains of thought, anxieties, and constant fears in our human complexity.“.
